ATHULA SULTHANAGODA

In 1984, I embarked on my professional career in the film industry, and over the years, I have taken on various diverse roles that have enriched my experience. My journey began as an Art Director, where I was responsible for the visual aspects of film production, creating the overall look and feel of the sets and environments. As a Production Designer, I further honed my skills in shaping the artistic vision of the entire production, overseeing the overall aesthetics and style. One role that required attention to detail and creativity was that of a Prop Master. I took pride in selecting and managing all the props used in films, ensuring they complemented the story and characters perfectly. As a Line Producer, I was responsible for managing the budget and day-to-day operations of the film shoot, ensuring that everything ran smoothly.Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to work in various film industries, including Hollywood and foreign films, alongside numerous Sri Lankan productions. My work has not only involved local projects but also internationally recognized movies such as "Beyond Rangoon," "Mountbatten The Last Viceroy," "The Iron Triangle," "Jungle Book II," "Mother Teresa," "Midnight Children," "Bombay Velvet," "The Gandhi Murder," and "House of My Fathers."One of the highlights of my career was being associated with "Film Locations Services," owned by Mr. Chandram Rutnam, which provided support to Hollywood directors like Steven Spielberg while shooting their movies in Sri Lanka. This experience allowed me to learn from some of the best in the industry and gain exposure to global filmmaking practices.I take immense pride in contributing to the Sri Lankan cinema and being part of prestigious projects that have brought international recognition to my country's small but thriving film industry. My work as an Art Director and Costume Designer on Sinhala classics like "Anantha Raththriya," "Kaliyugaya," "Aksharaya," and "Sam's Story" has been particularly rewarding, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka through the medium of film. With an impressive 38 years of experience in the film industry, I have now ventured into entrepreneurship by launching my own company, "infilm productions." My goal is to attract and assist foreign filmmakers in exploring the beautiful landscapes of Sri Lanka and other parts of Asia for their film projects. I hope to facilitate a seamless filmmaking experience for international filmmakers while also promoting the local talent and resources in the region.I feel fortunate to have had such a diverse and fulfilling journey in the film industry. As I move forward with my company, I aim to continue contributing to the growth and global recognition of both Sri Lankan and Asian cinema.
